Friends and family are welcome to join us for a reception at the Red Lion Inn following the graveside service. Stevie Jo was born on September 27, 1938 in Mineral Wells, Texas and graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1957. She also obtained an Associates in Arts from Weatherford College. She worked at Dunbar School with special needs kids and in the cafeterias of several schools in Mineral Wells, as children were a passion of hers. She also worked at the Old Nazareth Hospital as a Laboratory Assistant. Volunteering was a large part of Stevie’s life, which led her to volunteer for the USO at the Fort Wolter’s base in Mineral Wells. Here she met the love of her life, Dieter Steiner, who was stationed here as a sharp shooter after moving to the States from Germany. As a part of her passion for volunteer work, she avidly worked toward making Mineral Wells a better community through the initiation of the Keep Mineral Wells Beautiful Campaign and her work in CrimeStoppers. Stevie was also an active member of the religious communities at Lawn Terrace Baptist Church and 11th Avenue Baptist Church. The arts were something Stevie loved and delighted in. She was an avid writer and reader of poetry. She published several poems and wrote frequently as a hobby at home. Her family, friends, and church community also fondly remember her love of music. The beautiful music of a piano and her voice raised in song was a common occurrence in her household. She is survived by 2 sisters, Jessie Logan and Elaine Thomas, and 2 brothers, Anthony and Sandy Thomas. Her children are Richard “Bubba” Steiner, of Mineral Wells, Tim and Stephanie Greensweight, of Mineral Wells, Dee and Misty Steiner, of Mineral Wells, and Bryan and Lisa Johnson, of Fort Worth. She had eight grandchildren, Cody and Crystal Samples, of Mineral Wells, Duke and Jessica Samples, of Mineral Wells, Luke Samples, of Mineral Wells, Chloè Johnson,of Fort Worth, Iris Johnson, of Spring, Corey Steiner, of Mineral Wells, Makaylee Steiner, of Mineral Wells, and Braxton Steiner of Mineral Wells. She was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren. Stevie is preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny and Ernest Thomas, her parents Josie and Albert Thomas, and her husband of 59 years, Dieter Steiner. The family would like to offer special thanks to the Mineral Wells Nursing and Rehab Center and Solaris Hospice for their excellent care of our mother during her final days. We would also like to extend our gratitude toward Dr. George Thomas at PPGH for his attentive care of our mom during her stay there. The efforts of these people and facilities ensured her comfort, for which we are eternally grateful.
